In this Algebra work word problem we have pump A that can fill the pool in 10 hours and we have pump B that can fill the pool in 8 hours. If both pumps A and B were used at the same time how long could would it take to fill the same pool?

2a/2=18/2 divide cancel 2a/2
a=9
a+b=10
9+b=10 transfer 9 to other side it bcomes negative
b=10-9
b=1
check:
a+b=10
9+1=10
a-b=8
9-1=8
