Age Problem 3

Greg's father is 30 years older than Greg. In 15 years the sum of their ages will be 130. What are their current ages?


Solution

  1. Suppose Greg is x years old now.

    NOW
    Greg is x years old.
    Greg's father is x + 30 years old.

    15 YEARS LATER
    Greg is x + 15 years old.
    Greg's father is x + 30 + 15 years old.

    As in 15 years the sum of their ages will be 130, we can set up an equation:
    x + 15 + x + 30 + 15 = 130
